The Esri India organised a Users meet in New Delhi, on 18th January 2023

The Esri India organised a Users’ meet in New Delhi, on 18th January 2023, the theme of the which was GIS-Transforming Communities, inviting participation from Industry, Govt. Organisations, IT sector involved in Geospatial data handling and processing. Esri India Technologies Pvt Ltd. is a part of Esri Inc., which is a global leader in Spatial Analytics Products, headquartered in Redlands in California. Spatial Analytics plays very critical role in most of the emerging areas including Forestry sector.

As a part of the event, awards were given to institutions utilizing GIS capability for development, planning, conservation, and issues related to forest, environment, power, sanitation, water, disaster, community resources development and other sectors of economy. Forest Survey of India was given Special Achievement award for creating a Decision Support System (DSS) for Forest Clearance (FC) activity of Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Govt. of India. Sh. Anoop Singh, Director General, FSI, Dr Sunil Chandra, Deputy Director and Sh. SK Singh, Assistant Director and other officers from FSI received the award in New Delhi. The Decision Support System is a complete GIS enabled platform integrating geospatial layers for seven variables which decides whether a particular patch of forest can be diverted for non-forestry purpose or not. The DSS henceforth is a useful tool providing logical basis for decision making and a transparent method in land diversion cases.
