A new tree species of the genus Erythrina family Fabaceae has been found and reported by the Forest Survey of India.
A new tree species of the genus Erythrina family Fabaceae has been found and reported by the Forest Survey of India. The new species was discovered by Dr. K. Chandramohan working with the Central Zone of FSI at Nagpur during his field visits in Chhattisgarh and Odisha. Besides being a field forester Dr Chandramohan is a taxonomist and a keen photographer and has a prior experience of working with the Botanical Survey of India for 5 years. He has about 60 publications to his credit many of them in reputed international journals. He made multiple visits during different seasons to get the vegetative parts flowers fruits etc. and studied the phenology of the species. On botanical investigations it was confirmed that this is a species not reported so far. Dr Chandramohan named this species as E. anoopsinghii to honour and acknowledge the contribution guidance and motivation given by Shri Anoop Singh DG FSI. The new species has been accepted by the Royal Botanical Gardens Kew and published in the journal Annales Botanici Fennici. 60:2492023.
