One week Training-cum-Capacity Building workshop for Forestry Officers of Kingdom of Tonga at Forest Survey of India Dehradun from 4th to 7th September 2024.
Forest Survey of India hosted a one-week Training-cum-Capacity Building Workshop for Forestry Officers of Kingdom of Tonga on National Forest Inventory from 4th to 7th September 2024 in collaboration with FAO UN and Tonga. A total of 10 delegates from the Kingdom to Tonga attending the workshop. The Tonga delegation was headed by Mr. Heimuli Likiafu Head of Forestry Division Tonga along with 9 other subject experts officials from Kingdom of Tonga. Series of sessions covering topics on Forest Cover Assessment National Forest Inventory and estimation of forestry parameters were conducted along with field exercise on Laying of NFI plot to sensitize the participants on NFI and build their capacity in planning and undertaking inventories for the kingdom of Tonga. The field work was undertaken in Lachhiwala Forest to give practical demonstration of Field for laying out of plot and collection of data. Mr. Prakash Lakhchaura Deputy Director General successfully coordinated the workshop from Forest Survey of India. In the concluding ceremony of the workshop 7th September 2024 the Tonga delegation aspired to have collaboration with FSI in developing NFI for their country. Mr. Anoop Singh IFS Director General FSI stated that it would be an immense pleasure for FSI if we could enter in a collaboration and develop National Forest Inventory for Kingdom of Tonga on the lines it was done for Sri Lanka in year 2016.
